Work For Us

Here at Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens we receive an overwhelming number of applications to work for us.

If you are interested in working here you can read more about the job roles we have here at Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens below.

Relief Keeper

Relief keepers look after our animals on a day-to-day basis. They are responsible for providing a healthy diet for the animals and cleaning their enclosure each and every day to ensure the health and wellbeing of our animals.

Often relief keepers help to train our animal and take part in daily enrichment programmes to stimulate natural behaviour. A great personality and excellent customer service skills are essential as day to day contact with the general public will be also a huge part of your role. The role can often mean you are out in the cold and wet weather for long periods of time and the work is very hard and physically demanding. You will report to your lead keepers daily to ensure you communicate any information about the animals needed for the next day

Presenter

Presenters here at Kirkley Hall zoological gardens help promote and educate our guests on all the work we carry out here at the zoo. This work can be either informal such as encounters happening throughout the day or more formal such as school groups and group bookings.

Presenters also carry out the animal experiences such as Meerkat and Lemur experiences as well as running any special events we hold throughout the year including primate weekends and world wetlands day.

We also run a successful Zoo School and Zoo Club programme all of which are run by our very informative, friendly and knowledgeable presenters. An ability to chat to the public and great customer service skills are vital for this role along with sound animal knowledge and a good practical ability to handling animals.

Host

Hosts are accountable for the front facing of Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens.

Main responsibilities include ticket sales, general information and manning the petting barn however, a large part of the role also includes guiding tour groups around the attraction and taking the lead on birthday parties. As a host you will be the first port of call for any customer so it is essential that you are informative, personable and friendly as well as confident with animals.

If you feel that you are the right person for one of the positions above then our current vacancies can be found on the Northumberland College website.
